Aerial survey of dugongs conducted in Andaman Coast
The Thai government’s aerial surveys of dugongs along its coastlines are made easier with the help of drones and planes.
A team of officials and volunteers are based in Trang, Thailand where they utilised both methods for aerial surveys between March 24 and 30.
The surveillance team spotted 169 of these sea mammals in March, a record high in the past 10 years.
Dugongs are an endangered species and are protected under the Thai law.
