Woman dies after electric pole falls on her in Bangkok
A woman riding a motorbike in Bangkok, Thailand died in a freak accident after a large tree fell and knocked down several electrical poles in the process.
One of the poles, which is 100 metres high, struck the woman who was driving along Silom Road.
The owner of the weeping fig tree recently claimed responsibility.
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority deputy governor said they would compensate the deceased’s family with Bt20,000 and cover the funeral costs for one night.
The tree was four metres high but its roots were merely 60cm beneath the ground.
The constant rain in Bangkok is believed to have contributed to the incident as the rain-soaked ground could have loosened the tree’s roots.
